Summer Fruit Skin Remedies

Fruit is super healthy, and has amazing benefits for your overall health, weight loss and even skin care. Now that delicious summer fruit is in season, don’t limit their use to just your favorite fruit salad. Below, are 3 summer fruit skin remedies that can help clear acne, erase wrinkles and smooth rough, dry skin.

Strawberries and Acne – These yummy summer favorites, are naturally rich in salicylic acid, which is the main ingredient in most over-the-counter acne products. Instead of using commercial products that are also loaded with the addition of chemicals and preservatives, make your own strawberry cleanser, and watch your acne disappear day by day, naturally.

In a blender, puree 6-8 large washed and de-stemmed strawberries, with 3 tablespoons witch hazel and 2 tablespoons of either almond or jojoba oil (neither of these oil will clog pores). After mixture is blended smooth, store in a tight fitting bottle in the fridge. Mixture will stay fresh for 2 weeks. Each night cleanse your face with a dollop size amount of your homemade cleanser, using gentle circular massage. Leave mixture sit for 2 minutes before rinsing with cool water and allowing skin to air dry.

Papaya and Wrinkles – This tropical fruit contains a powerful enzyme called papain, which when used topically, acts as a gentle exfoliant, softening and rejuvenating tired, weathered, wrinkled skin. Using papaya as a mask, will help to remove layers of old, dead skin cells, making fine lines and wrinkles less noticeable with every application.
Taking a ripe papaya, peel and remove all seeds. Chop into chunks and drop into your blender along with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, and puree until smooth. Apply a generous layer of the papaya-vinegar puree to freshly washed skin, and allow to sit for 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water and allow to air dry. Leftover papaya puree will keep fresh in the fridge for 2 days.

For extra-exfoliating effects, after first washing face with tepid water, gently massage a dollop of sugar across your still wet skin, using small circular motions.  This will get the first surface layer of dead skin cells and debris loosened, so that the papaya-vinegar puree can do an even more intense job.  (do not do the first step sugar scrub if you have acne)

Pineapple and Skin Softening – Summer can often leave one’s skin rough, dry and weathered from being outdoors, but, you can avoid damaged skin and keep your body sexy soft by using this tried-and-true Hawaiian secret….pineapple. Hawaiians, who have gorgeous skin despite being in the constant sun, take chunks of pineapple that have been dipped into raw cane sugar, and rub them all over their body. Pineapple contains an active enzyme bromelain, that while being gentle and natural, is a powerful exfoliator, removing dead, dry skin cells, and speeding up new skin cell turnover. This leaves your skin baby soft and glowing. Do this 3 times a week, making sure to only use fresh pineapple.
