Nobody wants to ever hear the dreaded word “cancer” come out of their doctors mouth, yet cancer is all-too prevalent in our world today. Mostly because of poor lifestyle habits and our environment. And, to back that up, more than 1,000 scientific studies prove that you can greatly reduce and prevent your risk of cancer dramatically simply by tapping into the healing powers of nutritious foods.
Holistic health means taking responsibility for one’s actions, decisions and lifestyle choices. If you are eating poorly, don’t exercise, and use synthetic, chemical-laden products, chances are very high that you might develop cancer at some point in your life. If you are willing to take responsibility for your life and your health, then one of the most accessible and easiest things to do, to keep cancer out of your life, is eating nutritious, medicinal foods. Use the outline below, to see how you can help cancer-proof your life just by adjusting your eating habits.
Most “white” foods are just plain poisonous to our bodies and health. Foods such as pasta, breads, pastries, sweets and such, all made with nutritiously devoid white flour and white sugar, all spike your blood sugar, which is enough to raise your risk of many cancers all by itself. By contrast, bright colorful foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains, contain literally thousands of micro-nutrients, which can make a world of difference, not only in just your general health, but in warding off cancer. And, hats-off to “purple power”. Research shows that anthocyanins, pigments found in blueberries and eggplant, actually stop liver cells from growing!
Green Tea Guzzling
Try to replace your unhealthy beverages with lots of freshly brewed green tea. (can be served hot or cold) Powerful polyphenols in green tea kill breast, liver, prostate, colon, lung, pancreas and skin cancer cells. Green tea helps cut off blood flow to cancer cells, plus it helps defective cells repair or destroy themselves. Simply put, the more green tea you drink, the more you are protected. Even more effective than green tea, is white tea. That is because it is the least processed of the teas, and it has even more powerhouse antioxidants than green tea. Stay away from bottled green tea. Its processing destroys most of it’s beneficial properties.
Eat More Whole Grain
A review of over 40 different studies showed that people who ate at least 3 servings of whole grain a day (foods like brown rice and oatmeal) had a 34% lower risk for cancer overall. So, be sure to include more healthy whole grain food choices to your diet. Foods like brown rice, unprocessed oatmeal, walnuts and almonds are all delicious and easy to fit into your menu of meals. The extra bonus with unprocessed, whole grain foods is that most of them are also high in fiber, which most likely is the reason why whole grain foods are cancer-fighting superstars. This will assist you in getting the recommended 25-35 grams of fiber a day from food sources.
Steam Your Broccoli
Broccoli, along with all its cruciferous cousins such as cauliflower, cabbage and brussel sprouts, are chock-full of cancer-fighting compounds. However, up to 77% of those cancer-fighting compounds are destroyed by boiling or microwaving. The most nutritious way to prepare cruciferous vegetables, while retaining the majority of their health benefits, is to steam or stir-fry them.
Just The Right Amount Of Coffee A Day
Coffee is particularly high in antioxidants that help stop carcinogens from forming, however, there is a limit to what is good and what is too much. Drinking 8 oz – 16 oz of organic coffee a day can lower your risk of liver cancer by an average of 43%. And, that is based on research conducted on over a quarter of a million coffee drinkers! Do make sure to limit your coffee consumption to 16 oz a day, otherwise, you start to tip the scale towards undesirable health effects.
By eating as close to nature-made as possible, you shouldn’t be afraid of cancer…cancer should be afraid of you! Cancer cells don’t stand a chance in a clean, nutritious and oxygenated environment, so make your body a home that is not desirable to live in for cancer.
