Autumn Apple Sangria

 

Autumn Apple Sangria

(apple cider base)
2 cups apple cider (the real stuff – opaque in color & found in the refrigerator section)
1/3 cup raw sugar (you may also use coconut sugar)
2 whole cinnamon sticks
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/4-1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon orange zest
orange slices (rounds)

1 bottle inexpensive Spanish red wine
2 cups spiced apple cider (recipe above)
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup brandy

* additional sliced orange rings for garnish

 

To make the apple cider base, mix together all the apple cider base ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Strain before continuing on with the recipe.


To make the sangria, stir together the cooled, strained apple cider base along with all the remaining ingredients in a large pitcher and garnish with additional sliced orange rings. Stir in ice to the pitcher, or serve over ice-filled glasses.
